…to Texas and back…

Sooo…. we bought a car. Correction. We bought a car two weeks ago from a dealer in Texas. It was exactly what we were looking for and at the right price. We decided to have them ship it up to us to save a flight and the long drive. Well… after lots of pointing fingers, two weeks lapsed time and no straight answers from the dealer or the shipping company… we decided for Mike to go get it himself. This decision was made this past Friday at 2pm in the afternoon. So we purchased a ticket for Mike to fly down on the 6:30pm flight (that same day) and drive the car back.

He made it safely (no worries) and the car actually did exist. He drove and drove and drove all through the night (took about an hour nap along the way) and arrive back at our house in TN before lunch on Saturday!!! What a driving machine!

So here she is… our new addition to the family. 2004 Audi A4. The silver stud! (ok not sure if the name will stick but its the best I can do before 9am!10-09-18_new_car_001

Mike has already completed a few projects on her (slight “repair” to the truck latch, which now works like a dram) (slight “repair” to the drivers door handle… not sure what he did but its perfect now! he’s not sure either… haha). We’re both dusting off our manual driving skills but she shifts like a dream so its making it a lot easier for sure!

On Saturday, Avi also had a play date with my friend Julia’s labradoodle Charlie. Here are a few of the cute one.

Girls Night In

Here are a few pictures of what I was up to this weekend. The youth leaders planned a high school girls  “Girls Night In” and we got together and played games, did a photo booth, acted silly, had a short lesson, played more games, launched our “sisters” program, and ate wonderful lava cakes. Here are a few pictures of the wonderful girls I work with.

questions I was asked yesterday

the conversation began with a simple… “hi, you look like a nice person”
it then continued with the following questions… to which I answered
  1. wow that’s a pretty ring on your finger, are you engaged? nope I’m married
  2. so how do you tell if a person is married or just engaged? typically a married person has two rings instead of just one
  3. so why do you have three rings? I guess I’m super married
  4. is the ring always on the left hand? yes always on the left hand
  5. what is that ring on your right hand? just a decorative ring
  6. do you do Pilates? or yoga? nope
  7. what copier company do you use? (not important to the story)
  8. is it a big copier or a little copier? (not important to the story… but for the curious:) big
  9. I guess you can tell I haven’t been on a date recently yes, yes I can
  10. if you weren’t married would you go out with me? no
  11. why not? because this is a workplace
I think he was trying to sell copiers, but I’m still just not sure!... yes I'm teasing. I totally know what he was doing and he wasn't "selling copiers".

seriously!

diet-coke

Just found this on a friend’s blog and what truth. when someone chooses Diet Coke or any diet soda over a regular soda, they are choosing to put chemicals in their body rather than a few additional calories.

I try to do my homework on things like this, but seriously people! what sense does that make? what if you just drank 1/2 a Regular Coke instead of the whole thing… you would get 1/2 the calories (clearly what you are trying to do) and less chemicals.

Just an example of some of the side effects of the nasty stuff in these products: I recently bought some pudding for my lunches. I decided to buy sugar-free because I really don’t notice the taste difference and thought, well its chocolate… right?! Well within a few days of regularly eating the sugar-free pudding, I realized my stomach was in all kinds of knots, my belly was bloated and I felt terrible… I hadn’t even looked on the label to see what made them “sugar free” so I stopped eating them and within a few days, right as rain! I was back to normal (I know you’re thinking… katie=normal… really?! ok so as normal as I can be!!).

Just a helpful hint. Research from Europe, that hasn’t quite made it to the states yet, says that Diet drinks accelerate aging as well as cause internal intestinal problems (depending on the person). There is also some research that indicates that forgetfulness can be associated with Diet Drink consumption.  Chicago Tribute says it this way: “Most diet sodas contain aspartame, which produced formaldehyde as you digest it.” yikes!

So just be careful what you’re putting in you body!

Here is an article for the curious:
