Just thought i would update yall on how the biking is going. Last time I left you, while the blog was mostly about my awesome Michael, I was a mess on a bike. We have since biked nearly 20 miles without major incident. I got my bike shoes in and they really make shifting a lot easier which sounds weird so let me try to explain. W/o the shoes, I felt like I wasn’t keeping up with the bike. Now, with the shoes, I feel like my body knows better when to shift because my feet will spin pretty much regardless forcing me to figure out when to shift. (hopefully that was understandable).
Our first trip was out Turkey Creek Road to Boyd Station to Martel. It was a beautiful ride with rolling hills and scenes from river to farm land. This road is a bikers haven and had tons of road cyclists up and down it which is nice b/c then the cars know what to do better and don’t ride too close or rush you.
Our second trip was the bike course for our Triathlon. Its a very “technical” ride in a neighborhood and requires lots of hill climbing and sharp turns. Our tri will require 2 laps around this course. The first lap we just wanted to get a better feels for it so we took it a little slower. The second lap we tried to get up closer to race speed and work on our shifting. Because it is hilly, it requires more shifting and if you don’t hit the shifting at the right time, your stuck climbing the next hill in a higher gear and burning out your legs. Well I made it fine (for my first try), but Mike blew out his tire, so he had to walk a short distance back. (this is actually our entire tri course map!). You can click on the map to blow it up bigger and see the running course and the pool and stuff.
We took our bikes in to get a tune up on Monday and to have them fix Mike’s tire. We asked the guy there to help better fit me to my bike, so he watched me ride around a little. I came back around to have him adjust my seat some and forgot to unclip one of my feet and totally fell over under the bike right there in front of him and Mike. Nothing was too hurt, just my pride, so I laughed and got up. At least it was fairly uneventful and in seriously slow motion. Just my knee is a little banged.
Well as the saga continues of our biking adventures, I hope you enjoy the funny moments and celebrate with me the high times.
Love yall!
